Just took my 2002 ftp to a mechanic to have the abs scanned, he hooked up the tech2 and it would not communicate,he told me that I must have a broken wire. Does anyone else have an idea where to look first? Thanks
 


Yes the abs light is on along with the tis light. The abs module is plugged in, I tried unplugging it to see if it would reset, no luck. I checked the one 10 amp fuse in the box under the hood, is there another fuse?
 
There should be a code stored on the PCM if there is something wrong with the EBCM. I'd say some kind of wiring issue. Maybe bad ground?

if this is the case, it very well could be P1573. so if you see that it's possible. Even with my aero though mine never did show up until after the fact...go figure.
 
No luck yet! I forgot to mention that the (dic) information center that displays fuel left, oil change info,etc. is displaying all zeros. When I first start it up, during its checks it will show the boost signal, then goes to all flashing zeros. thanks guys
 
I have been messing w/ my ABS/TCS for months. It's still not working, so take what I say w/ a grain of salt. In order to do a complete diagnosis/system check, you need a Tech II and univseral pin-out adapter. But there are many circiuts that you can check if you can read a DMM, wiring diagram, and can follow instructions. If you don't already have GM service manual, I recommend either gpona.com (free)or alldatadiy.com (annual subscription)--you MUST create account for both sites and both sites have electrical diagrams and step by step diagnosis process.

Even w/o Tech II or universal pin-out box, you can still check many of the circuits for continuity, and verify that your instrument panel, DIC, & wheel speed sensors, are working properly.

A few things I have taken to note: first, about a million different things can cause this mess; the TCS is supposed to ground thru EBCM; if EBCM has a problem it can dissengage TCS, the EBCM communicates w/ PCM with serial data line (if scan tool isn't reading EBCM you may look at those wires to start).


Brandon was big help when I was trying to get my head around this. His advise to just send to modulemaster may have a lot of merrit--they are not that expensive, relatively speaking.
 
Ah thanks! But I'm not guaranteeing you it is the EBCM, but I spent a long time chasing mine down doing various tests and throwing small parts at it. I should have just sent the ebcm off from the get-go.
 


Another thing I found out with these cars is, if you scan don't scan your ABS for DTCs you're really just guessing. Problem is, no one seems to make a scan tool that reads C or U codes for the 00-03 GPs. Crazy to me. But we're stuck w/ GM dealer bs and being over-charged to get the ABS DTCs from their Tech II. I had truly stupid interactions w/ 2 different GM dealers. If you pay someone to diagnosis problem or scan your car,
 
(sorry, posted early).....If you pay someone to diagnos or scan your car, make them give you the actual codes in writing.

Have them clarify. What exactly do they mean when they say, cannot communicate w/ EBCM, ie does that mean it pulls a code indicating problem communicating or does that mean their scan tool cant detect/read your EBCM?
