ABS/Traction Control Sensor Housing Cracked

I replaced all of the struts on our 2006 Grand Prix yesterday (garden variety 3.8 liter) and broke off the left rear plastic ABS/traction control sensor housing in the process. It was a clean break around the base of the plastic, so I ran a bead of super glue around the edges of the break, pushed it together and it held solid, but I ran a bead of glue gun glue along the exterior of the break just for good measure. Now I am getting the check ABS light and traction control off message from the dash.

I have not tried to reset the dash display or run an analyzer, but I think the problem has to be the cracked sensor housing. I have seen numerous threads on this board that suggest these sensors are not replaceable. Is replacing the whole hub really the only solution?
 


you are correct. Replace it all and your problem will be gone. With the ABS on these cars they will reset themselves as soon as theres no problem. One you plug a new hub assembly in your light will be off right away, sorry for your loss lol atleast there easy to change.
 
Thanks, Pittman06! I really like Rockauto.com and it looks like they have the best hub price, based on other postings I have seen on this board:

They also list National and AC Delco hubs for considerably more. So, how do you guys feel about Timken hubs? I will also ask Rockauto.com, but can anyone confirm that Timken #HA590092 is the right rear hub for a 2006 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 3.8L?

Timken's are about as good as an aftermarket bearing gets. I only use Timken or SKF bearings. Check with your local autozone or advance as they also sell timken, just have the check by the number only and tell you what that part is for. And i too LOVE rockauto.com. I work in a body shop currently and just left a suspension shop and still, rockauto is normally below my cost from local parts houses

Yeah, some great deal. 10 months later and the GM dealer diagnosed a bad speed sensor in the Timken HA590093. I'm trying to get a warranty replacement from Rock Auto. The revised part # is 513179, a redesigned part? This is a major bummer for me - costing me money and a PITA.
 
It turned out we had the newer part, and it was covered under Timken's 1 year warranty.

Today, roughly 2 weeks later my wife reports more ABS/traction control sensor issues. It has been running well with the problem seemingly fixed. We are about ready to ditch this frigging car. I don't think we'll buy another GM in a while. What a sucky design! **** we haven't even gotten reimbursed for the warranteed bearing yet! I'm pissed about it.
 
Wheel bearing issues are common in many cars. The first one appears to have been self inflicted. While I'm not trying to mitigage your anger with it, you replaced a $300 GM part with a $100 aftermarket part. Sure Timkens seem to well typically, but they aren't infallable. That is one reason why a dealership charges so much, because they stand behind the part and labor for a year.

Sometimes saving $200+ works out, other times it doesn't. Sorry you had an issue and it upset you this much.
