ABS and Trac off light Problems

My ABS and Trac off lights go on and go off.
For the most part, they are off when I start the car and they usual come on after driving for 5 or 10 miles and stay on until the car is turned off again.

Here's the strange thing - my wife pointed this out and I though she was crazy, but she's right. When the ABS light is on the car is harder to steer.
Its not like the power steering is completely gone, but you can definitely tell a difference in steering when the light is on... I don't know how those two are related.

I disconnected the sensor wires and cleaned them good - no change. Also it does no show a code - at least not one that I can read with my OBDII scanner. No CEL.

Anyone with a similar problem in the past? Where should I go from here?

get the abs scanned or your just chasing your tail.

your wife is right, ( not crazy) lol the steering gets real firm when the abs light is on. you have magnasteer, its affected by the abs light.

does your scanner even read ABS codes ? many of them don't or will only read certain makes. if there's a ABS Light then there is a code. take it to a garage with a better scanner. if they can't get a code it's most likely the ebcm is having issues. or you can try this....

GM Tech II will read it for sure. Maybe also a good Snap-On reader. Could be a wire issue with the harness, or a bad hub. On my 00 GPGT it did this for a while and eventually the lights stayed on 24/7. Turned out to be a wire issue inside the harness. Replaced the harness and all is well. Not sure if the 02's have the separate harness from the hub to the main loom or not like the 00.
