AUTOMOTIVE NEWS -- General Motors, which is preparing for a 40 percent cut in its dealer network by the end of 2010, this week will send warning letters to nearly 1,000 dealers, sources told Automotive News today.
The letters will be sent Thursday to about 1,000 "underperforming" dealers and will arrive at their dealerships on Friday, said one of the sources familiar with GM's plan. The letters will warn dealers that their franchise agreements will not be renewed when they expire in October 2010, the sources said.

The letters will outline the dealership's deficiencies and detail how the dealership failed to meet the requirements of GM's sales and service agreements, said one of the sources familiar with the contents.http://www.autonews.com/article/20090513/ANA05/905139985/1078

Well some of the Dodge /Chrysler dealers around here are going to remain open regardless of what the letter tells them.
They will either just deal used cars or find a new brand to deal or both.

subaru is selling pretty good

Peugeot may be coming to America in the mass.... not crazy about the French but I have always liked the company

The local Pontiac dealer that I worked at a long time ago and still buy parts from got the letter yesterday. Just a day before I asked a guy in the parts dept what he thought was going to happen since Pontiac got the axe and he said he doubted they would continue.... then a day later GM cuts them anyways. Its sad to see but what do you do. They also offer GMC but there is another local dealership in town that carries all brands of GM so it probably wasnt a hard choice of who to cut and im sure there really doesnt need to be 2 pontiac dealers 5 miles apart in GMs eyes, especially when one is the local giant. The dealership that I go to also has a full body shop, used car lot, and also a Honda side so that may stay going but who knows on time will tell.
