• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

A quick estimate help.?

I will begin modding my 2001 grand prix gt soon.Just a quick question and a list of my mods ill be doing. What do you think ill gain with these mods?0-60,1/4 and top speed.
  • Hv3
  • 3in downpipe with high flow cat
  • self made intake(K&N)
  • programed pcm
  • magnaflow mufflers
  • rockers
  • fresh tires
  • and minor weight reduction (30lbs or less)
My guess would be 50extra hp and 40lbs ft extra.and 0-60 under 7sec,1/4 hopefully mid-high 14's.and top speed about 145.Any ideas and help?

Top Speed? Where are you going that fast anyways? In a L36 it'll take you 2 years to get to 145. And the 1/4? If you hit 14's I'll be impressed.

oh i see.yea im not sure if i wanna do a top swap because its kinda expensive(unless someone has a good deal:) ).but ill look into other options.i believe at least 14.8 is possible and man thats messed up to the dude commenting on top speed lol

Also take note you do NOT want a 3" downpipe. 2.5" is more than enough for all N/A cars. It is a similar setup to what I have now minus rockers. People with that setup usually run High 7's in the 0-60 with high 14's in the 1/4 mile. As for top speed.. who knows. maybe 130. No idea though

in terms of crank HP

Hv3 = ~20
3in downpipe with high flow cat = ~7
self made intake(K&N) = ~5
programed pcm = a GOOD tune ~10
magnaflow mufflers = change of sound
rockers = allows engine to rev faster so better 60 ft and 1/4
fresh tires = grip so better launches and better 60 ft and 1/4
and minor weight reduction (30lbs or less) = better 60 ft and 1/4

BUT you will not be incredibly fast, fastER than stock, yes

a Gen III top sawp can be 500 to 600 dollars for everything, search hard for those deals!

he does too want a 3" downpipe. a 2.5" downpipe is a waste and all these cars need as much top end as they can get.

HV3 only claims 9 WHP peak..... and thats WITH ER rockers.... its all about the gains ABOVE 4500 RPM.

So your car wont fall on its face, but it wont make that much more power.

There have been a ton of discussions on downpipes. Mildly modded GTPs won't even see losses with a 2.5". 3" is just too much for a N/A car, it will do more harm than good.

If you want to get the 3" go for it, but I definitely wouldn't. Unless you plan on going turbo.

i dnt see the waste seeing as i have headers on an N/A car! i feel more pull in the top end so it doesnt fall on its face as much, i say good buy

Best we can really tell you is it'll be faster than before.

The PCM can be one of the bigger items here. If you get a custom tune it'll be much better than an off the shelf tune as it'll be specific to your car and climate.

Damn.lots of discussion and input.thanks people, GP09 i like that breakdown and I agree with the guys regarding 2.5in for N/A.I will look hard for a good deal on a top swap.Does anydody here live in south florida?I just have very little skill doing something like a top swap and would be willing to pay someone to do it.otherwise eventually ill do it myself lol.

if you going to do a top swap you do not want a 2.5in downpipe because the car is no longer N/A. so also think of the future of the car so you dont waste money now and dnt have any later

No.... Headers right now. **** all that other ****. If you can afford good ones or get the cheap ones to seal then you'll appreciate 'em.
