A/C modes do not work

I have a 97 GTP w/ digital dual climate control. I replaced the blower 2 months ago, but this is a problem that I have had since I bought the car in Feb. It has 115k miles on it and I've put 10k on it. The problem: A/C and heater work fine on all levels 1-5 and can tell a difference in output at each level. However, the mode (defrost only, face, face/legs, legs, legs/defrost) does not switch no matter what mode I put it in. The auto control does not do anything as far as mode goes either. Also, the recirculate button on most cars will typically bump the a/c to a higher level, but does not happen either.

I've read a few things on this forum where the a/c and heater only work on level 5, but I would rather not try to replace something with that much work if it sounds more like I should just replace the DCC module. Any ideas?
