a/c hose install onto the compressor

I just replaced the suction / dicharge a/c hose on my 02 grand prix. The manifold that fits onto the compressor came with 2 orings installed onto the nipples that go into the compressor. The original hose manifold i took off did not have any rubber o rings, but had a washer on each side. I tried installing without the washers and just the o rings that came with it and it leaked. I then installed it again with the metal washers and it still leaks. do i need to install with the orings and the washers and if so what order do they go on? washer first and then o ring or vice versa?
