98 GTP dies when driving

Hey all its been a while since i posted. I just finished up welding in a new rocker panel and i was out driving my 98 gtp and it randomly died after about 30 mins. lucky for me it died after i got my inspection sticker. It sat for a few minutes then started up and I drove home. It did backfire the 3rd time i tried to turn it over then started Its has happened in the past a maybe 2-3 times. I put a new fuel filter in it last november and it didnt happen again until today, although it hasnt been driven too much since then. Im gonna throw new plugs in it any way, I was wonder if any one had any thoughts on the subject? Maybe crankshaft position sensor or maf sensor? Thanks a bunch!

Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and check for fuel in that line. There shouldn't be any, but that's the most common issue that causes a backfire. Typically on an NA too.

Since you were welding.. did you unhook the battery? If so.. check that. If not.. maybe on the crankshaft/maf

i unhooked the battery when i welded, i didnt want to risk frying anything haha. I cleaned the positive terminal and hooked it up but ill recheck that. i dont think i would have thought about vacuum line on the fuel pressure reg. I was gonna pull off the maf sensor to see if that needed to be cleaned or replaced. thanks

Maf is less likely to cause a stall. Running poorly, sure.. stall not as common. The backfire was what made me think about it.

If it's only done it since the battery unhooking.. really check those wires over, I suggest removing the bolt and sliding the boots off the end of the cables to look them over well.

I put a new crankshaft position sensor in my gtp and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help!
