'98 Grand Prix 3800 Oil Pan Removal Help

machine work is too damn expensive, thats why i went l36 bottom end, plentiful and all of them ive came across spec'ed out to perfect.

Very, very few people bother rebuilding these bottoms ends. Shortblocks are just too cheap, it would cost a ton more to rebuild than to just replace, so I would say it's pretty much scrap.

If you pulled still-functioning parts from a junkyard, wouldn't that save u a lot of money rather than getting a new engine?

You guys are going to think im crazy but i need this car running even if on 5 cylinders so thats what im going to do untill i can get the funds to fix it right... Hopefully this works ok.. I'm gona pull the pushrods & rockers off the knocking cylinder, unplugg the injector and get a resistor to put in its place, pull the rod down as far as i can and cut it off with the torch, push the piston and whats left of the rod as far back up in the cylinder as i can and tack it up there.

Question, Do i need to keep the end of the rod on the crank so the other rod doesn't try to move to the side?
If not i was just going to weld the oil hole shut on the journal.

Your engine would be horribly out of balance if you cut off the rod, I wouldn't expect to make it very far.

why would you do that when you can just run it as is without any modifications?

The rod is knocking, if i remove it, or in this case just detach it i won't have to worry about it coming loose and really messing things up. I didn't really think about the balance issue, but its screwed anyways so it won't hurt to try.. I don't really have anything to loose here, and I'm really curious how it will do. I just figured i'd throw it out there and see if anyone had reasons why it won't work very well like the balance issue.
