97 pontiac grand prix gt wont start

i woke up this morning ready for work got in my car it wont start no crank nothing no power then 2minutes later my lights are on dash lit up so i try to crank it everything go off no power :th_angry2: done go to work, get home clean the battery terminal same thing :th_thumb-down: i love my car but is like every pay day is going into my car dont want to junk it please some1 help me or should i sell it ?

My car had a problem like that, only when I would turn the key lights would come on just fine...then when I would turn to the point to engage starter, nothing. Waiting a minute or trying several times would eventually lead to it starting. In my case it had to do with the switch...seems that turning the switch pushes a plunger to make contact to engage different components and finally the starter. Changed that and all started working just fine.

could be your battery has just enough juice to light the dash and not enough to crank. Because as soon as you try and crank it your lights and stuff go off, because its trying to use what little power there is to start the car and there isn't enough.
