97 gtp ignition problem?

When I turn the key the dash lights lights up like normal but when I turn the key all of the lights on the dash go out and nothing happens. I know the starter is good and the battery has a good charge. And I just replaced the ignition switch so that isn't the issue either.

The motor was recently put in and started twice. Is there a possibility that the starter ground was hooked up wrong? Because if I turn the key and hold it after about 5 second it blows the 40 amp ignition fuze

your dash blacking out when the key it turned to crank is 100% normal. if you hear a click from the dash the starter is failing, or bad ground or battery cable. loose starter wires. time to look around.

test the little wire on the starter when the key is turned to crank, it should light up a test light. if it dont light up, your issue is larger.

What is the correct way that the starter wires should be connected? I've looked for a diagram and can't find one. And also would it have started those two times if the starter was hooked up wrong?

The last time it was started it ran for about 5 seconds and just shut off.

if you just put the engine in you need to make sure all the grounds and starter wires are on right.

black wires are grounds. pink red are power wires. and purple for the little wire on the starter.
