97 GTP fuel pump woes: Rewire stock pump?

About a year an a half ago my stock high mileage fuel pump died without warning (no start, completely dead). I ordered a fuel pump from w-body store and it worked fine for about a year until I started having issues with it (working intermittently, a bump to the tank would get it working again temporarily). During this time I ordered an AC Delco replacement pump (uses original module) "Rebuilt" module started having a couple hiccups recently and tonight crapped out on me on my way home from work, pump primes but not much pressure at rail. The fuel pump issues have been the only real reliability issue with this car and would like to get this issue taken care of! Car is mostly stock, I am planning some minor mods and some other work soon but I see no reason to get a higher flow pump than stock. I changed the fuel filter a year ago and I do not suspect that it is plugged and straining the pump.

I am still using factory wiring and fuel pump resistor set up non-venturi. I'm thinking about trying a Racetronix rewire kit (might have a voltage drop somewhere?) and another new pump. (#4) Any other recommendations?? Convert to a Venturi set up? Bypass resistor? Have you guys had luck with any particular pump/supplier?
 


Get a racetronix rewire literally plug and play did mine today and it is great quality and everything is labeled for a quick and easy install.
Don't know much about pumps but I know there is a relay for the pump were you can fold a pin back to have it at full pressure all the time and not have it switch from low to high which shortens the life span of the pumps.

I think that is exactly what I'm going to do. It seems most recommend not running these pumps on high at all times but to me it makes more sense to feed the pump steady even current. I'm going to print out a wiring diagram tomorrow and inspect my pump wiring thoroughly regardless. I bet I could make my own "rewire" or at least make some improvements to the stock wiring/possibly crusty connectors but the Racetronix rewire looks quick and easy. Did you upgrade to a high flow pump?
 
Actually guys.. by not going variable or different speeds on the pump, you usually lengthen the life of a pump. Rewire kits bypass the lower speed and leave the pump in high speed all the time. Most cars on the road have only one speed.

Additionally my car a 2000 Regal with 217K miles on it (original pump that I abuse all the time with low fuel) has been in high speed mod for two years now. Many of us had the resistor go bad, bent the tab and never looked back.

I would check the voltage at the pump and when you change the pump, look down in the tank for any gunk, floating particles that might block the pump sock and cause a pump to wear out prematurely. Also checking pressure might give you a sign that the fuel pressure regulator is bad.
 


I was agreeing 100% with the concept of running the pump on "high speed" at all times. I ordered a new OE Delco pump from Amazon and I will be inspecting all wiring tonight (specifically the gray wire power feed and ground). (~$100 cheaper than NAPA) If I have a voltage drop somewhere I'm just going to fix it or do my own "rewire". Hopefully this is the last pump I have to buy for this damn thing!
