97 gp gtp evap. Canister bracket broke, hanging

My 97 gtp has been a bit noisy lately in the rear. After some investigation I found the the evap. Canister behind the quarter panel hanging down and the bracket rusted and broken off. Is this a common problem? Is there a reliable fix besides the obvious "weld a new bracket"?
 


other than a bungee cord or two. that maybe the way to go, cut and weld in a new bracket, or if it unbolts, replace it.
 
If theres enough of the bracket left, you could make 2 plates and sandwich the old mounting area between them with screws or rivets.
