NewB here. Thanks for the awesome forum. Im trying to help my godfather with his car.

97 malibu 3.1L V6 with 197K miles.

Said it was driving fine and all of a sudden one day it stubmled and cut off. Managed to get it restarted and drove home. Once he got home he tried to start it again and it turns on for about 3 or 4 seconds very roughly like the whole engine is going to shake out of the car.

At the time he did drive it it had some CEL's but the car sat for 4 months and the battery went dead. The codes have since erased and I can;t pull any codes with my scanner.

Fuel is 43-44 PSI and holds steady with key off. I have spark to every cylinder.

MAF or Crank Sensor?

Thanks

My friend once had the same issue with a customer's car. Turned out there was an itty-bitty little fluffy feather stuck to his MAF sensor. It's at least a really really easy place to start.

hey one thing to look into is the wire from the crank sensor (in the rear of the engine in the middle of the block) to the ignition module (under the coil packs) the wire is a two wire plug and is usually made up of a brown wire and a yellow wire. this wire runs from behind the engine to the control module and does get near the exaust manifold. sounds like something is shorting that wire....let us know please.
