95 Grand Prix SE starting and heating issues

My car is starting then shutting off. It also overheats when sits and runs but will run fine otherwise. Car does start after a couple of times sometimes but sometimes it only takes onetime but its beginning to start this.
 


what does the temp gauge go up to when its overheating?
and it idles fine, but then just shuts off?
 
it has the engine to a 96 but the car is a 95 se 3.1 it starts fine sometimes but i usually have to do it two or three times and its only over heating when it sits in park running it doesnt have a temp guage it is not hooked up
