I bought the above car not running well and am now trying to figure out what is wrong with it. I have checked a few things but am not finding anything wrong yet. I traced ad checked the wires. It acts like the plug wires are crossed up. It will run for a few seconds at a time...say like 30-40 seconds then dies...has a hard time starting back up. Then it does run it is missing on like 2 cyl. It shakes bad and will hardly pull itself. It has 127k on it. It pops and backfires through the intake a lot. It's very sick. It does have fire at every coil pack. Guy I bought it from put new wires and plugs in it trying to fix it. Now, lol, I'm trying to figure out what is wrong. I'm pretty good with stuff but these electrical problems get me sometimes. Any advice on where to start?

sounds like catalayic converter could be bad, if u can get under there and hit it or shake it and listen for stuff rattleing inside then u kno its it, also i had a 93 with a bad crank sensor wire, it was shorting out together and o man it would back fire. took me a long time to find that short but eventually did, and i think i got the wire from the junk yard for like a dollar, the owner was happy as hell and still driving it, been over a year. hope this helps

Yes, check the crank sensor wire. My neighbor had the same problem with his. It had worn off the insulation in one spot & would run for like 1/2 hr., but then when the wires would touch it would just die with no warning.

I had giving up and taken it to a local mechanic. He has had the car since the first post of 6-29. I called him last week and he still has not figured out what is wrong with it. He has checked wires for all the sensor esp the crank. Put 2 different crank and cam sensors on it. Checked the compression, put a different coil pak and module on it. Presurized the coolant to check for head gasket. Checked resistance on the plug wires (that are new). Plugs are new. Wires are not crossed (although that's what it acts like) or either runs/starts like it is way out of time. Of course there is not way to set the time on it. Someone has been messing with it for sure. One of the cam sensor wires was smashed under the upper intake but that was not the problem unfortuantly. I don't know what to do with the stupid thing. I hate to junk it. It is a pretty nice car really...only has 127 k on it. Any other ideas? We are wondering if it is the ecm??

he needs to change that crank sensor wire! dont just inspect it because there is a plastic cover over the wire and the bare wires can be hidden under the cover....i bet its the wire change it with a used one, or tear the old one out and pull it apart wire by wire untwist it and then i bet he will see the short, until then u r gettin screwed. change it its cheap try it
