7/8" gear problems.

I recently picked up a used 7/8" setup and the driven gear has damage where the bearing rides. Have any of you guys had a similar issue? Does this look fixable to you guys? I have sent a email to TEP about his thoughts and if he sells the gears separately. Waiting for a response back. His website along with ZZP shows out of stock for the 2.93 sets. I think I may swing by a machine shop tomorrow and see if they can do anything with it.

That looks like rust and bad rust. I agree that you should not put that in looking like that. Also thinking that likely that won't clean up enough to be usable.

Im pretty sure the damage was done by the bearing since the area just above it in picture is perfect. It appears the gears from TEP are backordered and they do not sell them separately. I don't want to run it like that. I think I might run it by a machine shop and see if they have any ideas. Does anyone know what the gears came from before they were machined? 4t60e? Maybe I can get another gear and have It machined by someone.

They do come from a 4T60E.....Agree with Bill that do NOT run that in your transmission. There is no machine work that is every going to fix that. Very tight tolerance in that caged bearing and by the time you polish that out it will be out of tolerance. I don't think it's caused by rust, but do think it was cause by that caged bearing failing.

Alright thanks guys. The plan for now is to source a gear from a 4t60E and have it machined locally.

I have a 97 gp gt with a 4t60e that I plan on replacing with a 4t65e hd that I already have. Is there a way to find out what sprocket set it has in it now. It seems to be 3.29 ratio from what I have read but I have not been able to find the number of teeth on the drive and driven gears. I need a 33 tooth driven gear. If that is what I have then I will use that one and have it machined.

Looks like the 97 gp gt 4t60e has 35/35 sprockets so no go on that. I need to try to find a 33 tooth driven sprocket. If no one has one I found one for sale for around $45 online.

Well the one for $45 they were backordered even though they said they had them in stock. The next cheapest one I could find is $69. Man I hope this is the right one and they actually have it. Its frustrating when one little part causes so much trouble to track down. Ah the joys of buying used parts. :)
