6.5 components in front door

I know there have been threads about modifying the bracket to fit 6.5's but I'm wondering if anyone has mounted the speaker to the outside of the door panel?
 


because i wouldn't have to trim the stock bracket and because the speaker wouldn't be BEHIND the door panel. I thought it might be better for the sound if it wasnt behind the panel but dunno thats why i'm asking
 
Honestly, you'd be better off finding a way to mount it into the stock location. Your sound would be better because it would be mounted to a surface that's more solid than a flimsy door panel. Even fiberglass pods use an MDF ring to mount to. However, if it's strictly for the visual appeal, have at it... and I doubt your sound would be horrible if you mounted them like this. I ghetto'd a set of coaxials into my monte one time this way... still sounded alright.
