4th Brake Light/Write Up

dont know how many of you make it to the how-to/write ups so i thought id duplicate it here... (mods if this isnt ok, feel free to delete this, i just wanted as many people who feel they need/want this to see it - specially with tinted tails)

ok guys, after seeing a few local members pictures of their 4th brake light, and looking at my tinted tails everyday, i decided i needed a set of these for many reasons. there isnt much to explain the pictures say it all...

but if you have any questions feel free to ask...

and the kit is a universal "24 Red LED Strip (attaches with double sided tape)

First, remove the taillight (i choose to use the passenger side) by taking out the 2 screw style holders inside the trunk

Dont forget the third one behind the carpet

Next i tapped into the 3rd brake light for my source of power. others told me to use the taillight but that is a BAD IDEA!!! DO NOT USE THE TAILLIGHT. you can but its too much work. because you tap the high side of the bulb, which means when you brake it will work but it will also flash with the turn signal (on the side you tap) so just use the 3rd brake light.

I ran the wires inside the decklight and dropped it out outside of view and ran it behind the carpet for cleanliness...

Next i drilled 2 small holes in the car (one in the chassis and one in the bumper) just big enough for your wires to fit...
6.jpg

Next run the wires from the LED strip through the hold in the bumper and through the chassis hole also... i used silicone on the chassis hole to keep water out of the trunk.

Here shows where my wire came through from the whole in the chassis. it come through inside that channel.

A little joining of the wires and heatshrink and tape and your ready to finish up.

Little tape to hold the wires up temp till i figure another way to mount the wires...

This is the strip taped down to the bumper channel.

As you see here on my color you can kinda see the strip but it is really not noticeable during the day. i am actually going to paint the small "1/2 peice of the bumper to the sides black to make it blend better... and probably the top of the bumper between the tailights so it is as if there is one long black strip going across there (from taillight top to taillight top) I put one on my friend jose's black gp and it blends in smoothly...

single tips are going to dual/duals VERY soon hopefully... thats the next project....

and thanks hope u or others can find it helpful

Yeah in the second to last picture it does appear to be off center, but in all the other pictures it is perfect, He did a really good job with this,,,

Wow, have always thought about doing a light bar there much like how all the guys with pick ups add that extra one in below their tail gates, but never actually thought about trying it.

For me, I was going to get with reflective concepts and have him make me a red reflective strip to put in there, cause it would go good and blend well with the stock tail light reflectors that are already there on either side.

This LED set up looks pretty bad ass. Something I wouldn't mind doing myself.

So where do you end up finding a LED bar like this?

Farns (and anyone else interested) - this is the auction/seller i used... good luck if anyone chooses to do this...
eBay Motors: 24" Red Flexible Under Car 30-LED Strip Bar Neon Lights (item 290246575883 end time Jul-23-08 23:32:06 PDT)

and they are perfectly centered... some pics look off center cause of the way the strip is designed...

and no blue unless u just wire it up for show... cannot legally be used on the read.. but see the seller above, he does have colors other than red if you want for show purposes...

I just put one on today, it only took me about twenty minutes. I used two 12" strips instead though. i was thinking about making them blink but i changed my mind.
