4T65E transmission interchangeability

Hi all. I just joined the forum to get some info on my wife's '99 GP with the 3.8L engine.

The rebuilt transmission lasted only 61k, and off course it's out of warranty. The car has 216k, but it still runs fine. I'd like to find a junkyard or used transmission just to get a few more miles out of it, and I don't think it's worth the rebuilt $.

so, my question is: If I go looking at Ebay or the internet, is a 4T65E pretty much interchangeable between different GM products, or is there a specific flavor for the Grand Prix? Looking at a few Ebay ads, it looks like there's probably a version of the transmission specific to the GP, but I'd like to be sure.

Morad Parts Company will have about whatever you need for a used trans and they have an Ebay store so you should be able to find them no problem. There are many variations between the transmissions such as gear ratio changes, wiring, and torque converters, but regardless these guys will know exactly what to set you up with. If you are looking around locally I can help you out but I will need to know the ID codes on the transmissions you are looking at to let you know if they will work properly or not. There may be a link on here somewhere by Sinister Performance about the ID codes and the differences.
