40th Anniversary Grand Prix Gt

Hey there,

Thinking about purchasing a 2002 40th anniversary Gt, wanted to get a feel for what the car is actually worth in your eyes and if I would actually be happy with a non supercharged version of this car. I am a Pontiac fan, I used to own a 30th anniversary Pontiac Bonneville. I loved my Bonnie and miss it all the time. I have been searching high and low for another, but there are almost NONE for sale near me here in FL. The car I am looking at looks to be in great shape, has been garage kept and the paint and interior look really good. The car has eibach lowering springs (2" drop), MOOG struts (4), GMPP sway bars back & front. Iit has brand new brakes & drilled rotors (4), control arms, ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rods, 4 brand new brake lines & master cylinder, new rear caliper, power steering pump (under warranty), fuel pump, both upper and lower intake gaskets replaced, all brand new brake lines. It has newer headlights ( which leak and need to fixed), LED tails. No engine or tranny mods so that is all stock. It has an exhaust leak, and a few other cosmetic problems such as bulbs being burned out and ABs sensors being bad.. The car has around 136k miles. I am looking at other GtPs for around 2k in my area, but have no idea what is wrong or been fixed on them. They are asking 4k for this car. I am also considering the Buick Regal Gs and the Park Ave Ultras. Very recently some really nice and low mile Ultras have come up, but as far as the Regal Gs is concerned there are none for sale I like. What would you guys do? Thanx in advance for any and all input.

Up here in the north a rust free car like that would be good for that asking price, nearly impossible to find a rust free example anymore.

The GT is less powerful than the GTP models that's for sure, not as quick and one downfall to the GTP is premium fuel if that bothers you. If it's just a daily driver and you don't care, go for it.

Yea, the premium fuel thing is a positive. I also own a Cadillac that eats premium and I hate filling it with gas for that reason alone. I was thinking that the price was right, but was just a bit concerned that the car had an exhaust leak. However, the 40th has some fugly a$$ interior, but the mods and fixes make me overlook that. I really wish I could find a regal GS because the interior is right up my alley. That is why I am also considering the PA ultra, Do you think that asking more like 3,500 would be reasonable on my part? I also forgot to mention the car comes with 05 stang bullit rims, which I think look so much better than the stock 40th rims.

I'm sure it's going to be hard to bump him off 4 Grand. I agree with the interior being ugly but you can swap seats with another w body, just keep the orig if you ever sell. With that maintenence done too it it seems it was taking car of. Premium pshhhh what is that like an extra 5 bucks to fill up, not a big deal. I'd go for it if I was you.

If you think the interior is ugly just pass on the car and look for one without the anniversary edition, I wouldn't swap anything out for sure as its part of the package. Do what suits you, I like the 40th model,it is something a little different. I sold a GT few months ago that was rusted and had less miles for 1200 needing work. I paid 200 as it had been sitting for 2 years. But it was a northern car. Good luck!

I have a 40th anniversary GT, purchased in April 2004 with 18,000 miles. It now has 249,000 miles and still running well.
I get consistent fuel mileage of 25-27 in mixed driving. If I take long trips, which I have done in the car in the past 3 years, I have gotten up to 31 mpg, which is awesome for a car this size and weight.
For mods to help fuel mileage, I installed the HV3 intake, U-bend delete in exhaust, high flow cat converter, and I do all my own maintenance, so tune-up items like plugs, plug wires, oxygen sensors, and other items are kept up-to-date.
The car is less powerful than the supercharged versions (I own a few of them too) but with the above mentioned mods, it still gets by pretty good. I never had it on a dyno, so I have no idea what the wheel HP would be.
The engine is in top shape because I use synthetic engine oil. At the mileage on it, it makes no noise.
Unlike some GP owners, one of big reasons I bought it was the interior. I liked the color combination, and it is also in good shape for the miles.
Some other notables is that I am the only driver of the car which I believe makes a car last longer. Also, the car is garage kept. I have driven it in some Pennsylvania winter conditions in the past and there is rust taking hold on the rocker panels. I plan to park this car and do a mild restoration on it in the near future.
I have never driven 1 car as many miles as this one. Previous high miles was on an '83 Old Toronado, at 203,000 miles driven
