New Question. Built GTP or WS6?

OK deleted old thread. Simple question. Given the choice build your GP to be a real go fast beast or buy a WS6?
Previous thread before editing was about possibilities of a huge build. After some thought I have talked myself into a simple decision. V8 or V6? I have about made up my mind to go V8. I just wanted to get some opinions as to why some chose to make their GPs killers and not buy a V8.

WS6!!! mild cam, head, intake its in the 400hp range and on some good tires that is 11's all day. LS1 POWER!! i think it would take alot more work, time and patience to do that with a grand prix.

Thanks, I was editing that as you responded. I have gone back and forth on this idea. I read some other posts and decided WS6 is prop the way to go.

Because no one expects a grand prix to be fast. Also as my car sits now I have the same amount of money invested into it (include purchase price) as a stock WS6 would cost, and I sure hope I could smoke a stock WS6. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a WS6, but I love me gp also.

Thats what has me thinking to keep the GP. Like it was said most people knock our cars as "grocery geters" Has to feel sweet to smoke a Camaro, T/A or even a Vette with a GP and see the look on their faces. I had originally planned a sleeper for the GP but got carried away with appearance mods and car shows. I just cant decide 100% Still leaning WS6 at this point. I have a while to decide.

I joke with a friend that if I came into a bit of money, just for giggles, I want to get a Regal GS and dual charge it. Super sleeper there. Pull up to a light, and laugh my ass off as I smoke 'em. In the end I'd probably end up putting just as much into the car, if not more in aftermarket parts than the value of the car. But it would be a joy...

Thats my thought, the whole sleeper thing. I mean honestly, who is going to expect a GP to do what it can? A little work here and there and I think a few mustangs could be surprised.

yea the sleeper aspect is pretty cool. but other than that i think the T/A has it in everyway. raw muscle. 6 speed. RWD. awesome V8 exhaust sound. problew more reliable with the same amount of power. plus the over all look of the car. MEAN AND NASTY. strait attitude. sorry guys i still love the grand prixs and i understand the whole sleeper effect as to thats what im going for personaly, and well if your trying to have a sleeper well go with the grand prix but if you want straight power.....T/A. you cant knock the LS1. specially once you start moding it.

I've got a friend who is always saying "if you want a fast car, buy a fast car". Getting there is half the fun. Sure, you can make a fast car faster, but do you have the know-how to make the average car just as fast? That takes skill and planning, and more than simple bolt ons. You'll get more respect than someone who just dumped a bunch of cash on a fast stock car.

It seems to be that way with a lot of Corvette owners. They are middle aged guys who want a fast car. They will do NOTHING to the car after buying it, not even the simple mods like a CAI. I've thought about getting a vette, as you can always find a pretty good deal on one. But I'm not 45 years old, looking to recapture my youth, nor am I divorced and dating a 21 year old "who doesn't love me for my money. She loves ME!" :D

As much as I love my car...there's just nothing like a cammed LS1 WS6.

If I could have afforded one when I bought the GTP I would have one right now.

I'm sorry. lol

I have to kinda agree with ya. I have always been a Pontiac fan, that affection ignited by the Firebird after they went to the F body I believe it was, 83ish or so. The week after I bought the GTP another lot had a WS6 sitting on it and I gave it a few moments thought of getting it.

That said, Im glad I didnt because there is something about the so call 'grocery getter' being able to go down the track running 13's with not many bolt ons. Furthermore, I have learned a great deal since owning the GP. As well I had to that time never had any experience with forced induction. So while I will always cherish the Firebird, maybe even still shop around for one from time to time, I have no regrets about having the GTP. I would have no hesitation about buying another.

It's nice to build a car with the power nobody expects. I'm waiting for the day when I get all my HP mods done and walk the dog on a Vette. then the next time you see it, it has a FOR SALE sign on it because he got beat by a V6 four door family car. Did that to a Muskrat GT the other day. Thought he had something, but he got embarassed. Even thought of one day converting my GP to rear wheel drive and puttin a LS1 under the hood. Keep it quiet and that would be a major sleeper. But as my opinion for David99, you already have the GP. The money you would spend to get the WS6 and for the mods, you could have the same if not more HP. It's just a thought to think about. But either way you go, they will be some bada$# cars.

Nice call. He's 28 and about to buy a used Z06. :th_laugh-lol3:

In the last four years, he's had a 400WHP Civic, souped up Evo, cam'd GTO, and now drives a Tundra. I knew the Tundra wouldn't last. ;)

My friend has a 98 Ws6 6spd. that he was looking to sell last year for $8,000. The car is still for sale and one of the nicest ws6's around, I was thinking about getting it but am a college student and need a daily driver and don't have room for 2 cars here. So I bought the gtp and am still trying to sell the SHO... lol.

i can agree on both sides of the story but i think it comes down to personal preference . i personally would take my gtp and mods over a ws6 just because i can fit more friends in it to laugh at the ws6 as i am pulling away from it :D . i know everyone hates mustangs in here but when i have my 90' 5.0 i whoop the hell out of this WS6 on the freeway we dropped to 40mph and i ate him up , we did another drop to 60mph and i ate him up again then we did another to 60mph he jumped the 3 honk on me and i still ate him up . his lady was laughing at him and he was all pissed off , i just laughed and gave him the peace sign and got off the freeway . anyways i just love having a sleeper car .

No matter how bad you make it, no matter how many mods you add, no matter how fast you can go there will always be someone that has made their car more bad, more mods and faster still.

true but i think still think it is great pulling up to a $30-40k car with a car worth $10k with mods and beating them . plus i could take that same car on a cross country drive in comfort . personally i am not young anymore to where i want to spend that kind of money on a car . i will be happy with my gtp running mid to high 13's . if i want to go faster than that i will get on a crotch rocket (motorcycle) .
