hey! anyone have suggestions on what I should do to my gtp first? not alot of money. I know that i'm going to start with exhaust, any idea on what set I should get?
 


Watch for these item's in the For Sale section of this fourm and you can have a rather quick car on the cheap.

3inch Down pipe
1.9 Modifed Rockers
Intake of some sort
A tune and pulley drop at that point.

A good start to having a soild 13 sec car on the cheap.

^ go headers its the same price as dp and 1.9 modified rockers require larger springs. Do roller rockers if you decide to do any valve train mod or cam :D. for the intake just get a air filter cone from autozone and put it on the throttle body. OPEN CONE FTW :) then a tune and maybe a modular pulley system from zzp.com

Not so much, You wont net bigger gain's from headers as your would 1.9's and a downpipe. Header's are not really even needed IMO intill you start knocking on 300whp.

There is no way I'd touch a set of 250 doller headers. Pacesetter's are about as crappy as I'd buy.

Modifed 1.9 Rocker's DO NOT require larger springs. If so I've been doing it all wrong and the modifed rocker car that's been running 12's on stock springs with 170,000 miles on it for the last 2 year's in my driveway is a myth as well. I've had roller rocker's and they are about a waste of money if your trying to build a cheap quick car. Not to many people can swallow the 500 dollar's for them when you can do the same thing for a lot less.

thats just stupid, hes trying to increase his hp and tq SAFTELY, so your telling him "hey run a 3' DP, moddified rockers, and 3.4 setup. Great you hhave no outflow mods mean back pressure that can realease which mean BOOM! You wouldnt touch a pair of headers that cost less then 250? haha we dont all have money but all want to mod, have you seen every pair of headers ever made for our cars? have you installed every pair of ebay headers for our cars? probably not, so dont say you wouldnt do this or wouldnt do that. thats an opinion which is what the forums are about but he wants to mod saftely and smart. your running 1.9 moddified rockers with stock springs? thats not a GREAT idea because of valve floating after 6200 rpms is not a myth but has happened to people on this forum.

lol, im not trying to be a dick and say you dont know anything but he should do gateway mods first.. so he can do quick other hp gains later like pulley drops

Nothing wrong with the cheaper headers. Im running on my 5th year of 250 dollar SSAC headers and they still look great. If you want to rev over 6K and not have float then you should upgrade the springs. If you stay under 6K rpms and have pretty low mileage stockers are fine

im with this guy minus the comment on the headers. ive seen enough people buy them that id trust myself to buy them if i was on the boat for headers again.

however, the stock springs are money with modded 1.9s, i swear.

No Harm done at all, I just dont see a point in replacing somthing when it's not the set back in a build when your trying to do it on the dirt cheap. I've seen a number of guy's run well into the 12's and making over 300whp with zero issues on mainfolds. Is it ideal... Maybe not? Does it work with out any harm or issues. With out a doubt when you know what your dealing with. Good example.. While I was at zzp today a nice middle of the road xp build was getting dynoed. End of the pull.. Cranked out 303 whp. I've made 312 on stock mainfolds and never had a lick of problems at all on stock exhaust besides a 3 inch downpipe. Every one has their own way of modding and building. My way might not be ideal to some but to other's it works. So to each there own and happy modding.
 
headers are too cheap to not throw them on.

You could still run a full size, big cam and heads and make stupid power.

But the cost of any one of those mods is as large or larger than headers.

Thats right outa blues guide. thats what im planning on doing this summer then buy springs eventually to be safe
 
my biggest philosophy the faster u get the air in the faster u get it out the faster youll be get headers first cuz once u get the headers done with the u bend delete anything on the car can be accomplished
 
Eventually you will want headers on a GTP, and if you can do the install, it's a great first mod. No more exhaust flow worries at all until you get really high in the HP. It's a great point to start from and build on.

I've heard very good things about the Speed Daddy ebay headers - 205 shipped. They fit with very little modification if any for most people. Ask around.
 
alright guys I hear ya. I'm going to go with complete exhaust. I need to look around but I want the best set out there that can handle hp I do plan on building this car up and I mean up so I want a set that I can put on that no matter want mods I do I will not have to upgrade them. I will need to go with 3" down and cut out the U bend, I know that. I dont want to go really cheap on the set but like I said before dont have alot of money but think that I can sacriface some money for a good set I will make it happen after all my gtp is my baby
