3" catless downpipe, overkill?

Hi all. Quick question. Got a 2000 GTP. Just piecing together power adders and was wondering if a 3" downpipe would be a waste over the traditional 2.5 On a stock catback. No big plans for the car, still on stock pulley. Has a powerlog installed. Eventually going to drop a pulley size or two down the road, probably won't be more than a 3.5. Just trying to get opinions before I click the buy button. Thanks in advance
