I just bought a 2009 G6 GXP
And the engine took a crap
uhoh.gif

The engine started knocking a and the car shuts off
So I have a question.
my G6 has the 3.6
Can I install a 3.5 or a 3.9in it

No, you must replace it with a 3.6.

The 3.5 and 3.9 are totally different and will not function with the computer/wiring in the car. The 3.6 is specific to that model and computer/wiring.

Is the Pontiac G6 the only one that has this size motor
That will fit this car
Or is there other GM brands that have this same size motor
Thanks

The LY7 was put in several cars.

GM High Feature engine - Wikipedia

You'd need to find one from another LY7 equipped vehicle, then swap over any brackets or whatever that is different. You will need to do a lot of research to make sure what else you may run into when swapping engines.
Thanks
One question- this guy has a Short Block 3.6L GM engine. he says it will Fit 07-09 Saturn Aura, Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6, and Saturn Vue
But its just the block
Will that work
What would I need to look for when looking at it
Thank again

While the engine is out please consider changing the timing chains and tensioners. Those High Feature 3.6 Liter engine are infamous for eating the timing chains/tensioners. I was doing research for a friend and was scared away from those engine because the job is just easier once the engine is out of the car and it is more of a maintenance item!!!

Honestly I'd just check car-part.com, LKQ or another JY in the area and see if you can score a good running engine, do the recommended timing chain/tensioners while out and drop it in. That would be the quickest way to get it back on the road with minimal chances of a "surprise" if you don't build it right. Then again, if you have the time/money to properly build it from scratch then by all means, build away!
