2008 GP GXP clunking noise???

My GXP has 95,000 on it. I have a light clunking noise coming from the front end when I go over bumps at low speeds. I can't hear it high speeds and the front end seems solid.

So far I've replaced the front strut mounts and bearings, sway bar links, and torque strut mount (dogbone).

Tie rod ends seem tight, doubt its the ball joints? I'm thinking the next replacement would be tie rod ends, even though I don't feel/see any movement when grabbing the tire and moving it back and worth and side to side.

ANY IDEAS???

I thought for sure it was the strut mounts, but they did nothing, not a bad thing to replace though I guess.

Thanks,

Eric

04+ sway bar links can get sloppy and make that clunking noise. They have ball type joints with a dust boot on them, if the boot gets buckled or anything and road grit gets in them then they get wallered out and rattle. Jack it up, both wheels in the air and wiggle the sway bar links, if they move at all then that is your problem. I had this problem because the factory boot was pinched in one spot letting water and crap get in it. When I took it apart it looked like it was full of sand.

I stated in my above post I replaced the sway bar links. On a side note, I used the Moogs, and they are a lot more beefy, with a lot beefier ball and socket.

I see that now, sorry. The intermediate shaft will also make noise if it gets loose. I had mine replaced before the warranty expired because it was knocking around, but only when I was turning the wheel.

I am having the same issue. I have also replaced all the mentioned parts plus new moog control arms. How can I tell if it is being caused by bad axles?

I highly doubt it's the cv shafts. Mine is more of a suspension noise. My next step is replacing the tie rod ends. Doesn't cost that much money, and not too hard of a job. This noise is really bugging me, and it's not loud enough to pin point it.

I know my '99 GTP is waaaayy older, but I couldn't believe it when I had some work done on my intake seal and they saw that one side of the swaybar link was basically hanging on by a thread. It aparantly came from the factory as a hollow piece; cheaper I guess. And it had rusted and twisted to pretty much coming apart. Just venting about cheap factory parts, nothing else to add; sorry.

My 2004 GTP has had a clunking noise for a few months now. Originally I replaced both CV joints as the car had been in an accident prior my purchasing the car. Both CV joints were new and yet about two years later I started to hear a thump thump when going straight down a smooth road, the thump thump got louder and seemed to come from the Right side. I changed the CV joint, but first took it apart and seem some " imperfections " i the CV Joint which was made in China. I replaced the CV joint and drove the car. I feel and hear the thump thump, but not as loud, but still seems to be in the front, but not distinctly from the right side anymore. I only have 42,000 on the car. Was there any issues with the Transmission bearings in the 03 GTP? or maybe the other CV Joint from China is also bad????
