2008 Base Model issues

Ok here is something I can't figure out. I have a 2008 Grand Prix I bought from a local. 150000 Miles. Past is unknown. The car does not have ABS or Traction control, but I have a traction control and ABS service light on the dash. I also have a MAP low voltage service light and have replaced the MAP sensor, traced the wires, checked voltage and grounds. This is driving me crazy. Car runs great. Just want to get the service lights out. I can't be the only one. And I did check the fuses. Robbie

Failed solder joints in the ABS module?Search "Grand prix abs module solder joints" or "Grand prix failed ABS module"Something like that.

I was really hoping someone on this forum could help. If there is someone who can please let me know I'm at a loss. as the 1 reply the vehicle I have does not have ABS, so there is no ABS module to check. RIF.

I have to ask now. Is this a joke on the new member. Or are you serious? I came here to get some assistance on a vehicle I'm not familiar with. I post on several other forums and help with problems all the time if I can. But if you're not joking. please don't post. I just need to get some assistance with an issue I can't resolve and you're not helping.

Um, Brandon has been around these cars a lot, so he's not joking. What I would advise is to get a full scan and post the CEL codes here, then we can go from there. The MAP issue can be a number of things.

OK, so here goes nothing. I'm not new to being a mechanic. I will say again. This model does not have ABS. So, this car does not have an ABS module to check solder connections, or does this car have wheel speed sensors to check. There are no ABS codes in the ECM, because there is no option for ABS. But the ABS lights on the dash are on. I have 2 very good Professional scan tools with the latest software, and I can't turn them off or see why they are on. That is why I'm here at a Grand Prix forum to ask the experts who have seen a lot of these cars and figured they should know if a car does not have ABS there would not be an ABS module or wheel speed sensors to check. That is why I was thinking the responses had to be a joke. So, I will continue my search for an answer.

From some digging it appears that the 08 base model had ABS/trac control as optional equipment, so that explains that. Only the GXP had it as standard. Wondering if someone swapped ECM's at some point and now it's not happy since those inputs are obviously not there for it to read. Were those lights always on since you bought it or did they pop up later on? Is there a code for the MAP issue as well?

Thanks for the circle back on the research. I do appreciate it. I realize on these forums you guys deal with some real "not smart people". and some amount of fact checking is needed. I bought this car from a family member and yes, the lights have been on since he owned it. Before him I don't know. At first, I tried my basic scanned and no joy and thought what gives and then got it on the lift for a simple, it must be a wheel bearing. Only to find no wiring and that's when I started realizing there was no ABS at all. As for the ECM swap. It's buried in the snow, so next week I'm going to check it. My only 2 options are to have the ECM re-flashed. Don't know if the car is worth it, or can I pull the cluster and pull the bulbs? And the MAP sensor I will deal with after I start driving it and putting some miles on it. Right now, it runs great. Thanks

If the ECM was changed out to an incorrect one, then you could likely score one from a non-ABS/trac control car if it's cheaper than a reflash. You could always yank the bulbs from the cluster too I guess. Doubt it would cause any issues like pulling the CEL bulb (which I'm sure you know will cause it to chime). If the car runs great then I'd think it's worth it personally. Cheap reliable transportation. Give it some shakedown miles and see if anything else comes up. Sounds like it's a solid GP so far minus the weird ABS gremlin. If I come across anything else I'll post it up.

Dumb thought, but since the car is not factory equipped with ABS/TCS, is it possible someone stuck a fuse in for these features even though they aren't on this particular car? They are likely wired for it regardless if it has it or not (just like adding a heated seat- find harness, install seat and install fuse) so maybe it somehow triggered those lights if this is the case.

I will definitely check that. I think I fixed the MAP issue I replaced the PCV valve again. This is the 3rd one, the first 2 seemed fine but had a lot of crank case pressure. I bought a 3rd and cleared the light and put on 20 miles and no light I say that and not it will be back today. I will go thru the fuses and relays today and just pull them all. I've been sidetracked with a customer's 58 Apache. I checked the ECM and it looks original to the car. No salvage yard marks. VIN matches car. Thanks again.
