2006 GXP Transmission Whinning

I was moving my '06 GXP from NY to Las Vegas and while towing a 5x8 Uhaul trailer the tranmission temp got up to about 230 degrees. The engine light came on also. After stopping at a rest stop to have the car cool down, the car wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I tried several times to restart the car. When I turn the car on it makes a loud whinning sound, but when i try to put the car in gear, i don't get any movement. Please help!!!

First off, how does your tranny fluid smell (burnt, blackish brown colored). The whining you hear is from the tranny pump. So that mean its either the trans is low on fluid or the pump is going out. You are having the exact same symptom I was having before my trans blew up. It first was whining, then I lost access to all gears. But I am not a tranny specialist, I am a newb myself, but this sound like exactly I went through before replacing my trans.
