2006 GP cruising along and then stalls

My wife was driving home in it today and was on an on-ramp going excellerating when the RPMs dropped to zero and the car coasted to a stop. She said she put it in park, waited awhile and put it in drive and nothing still. RPMs would not move when given throttle. She then turned the car off and re-started it and still nothing. She then sat with it idling for 5 minutes then shut it off again and re-started it. This time when she gave it gas it went, and she drove the rest of the 15ish miles home problem free.

Any ideas? It did this ONE time last winter, where basically the exact same thing happened. That time when she got home I dumped a bottle of seafoam in the gas and it never did it again (unsure if anything to do with seafoam.)
Could it be bad gas? Or doesn't that make sense?

Should point out that it is about -10 Fahrenheit degrees here right now.
The car has 145k miles and has been 100% trouble free other then the two times this has happened.

Thanks a lot for any thoughts and advice

Sounds like a tell-tale sign of the crankshaft position sensor going bad. The tach dropping to 0 before it shuts off is a known sign. And no, they usually don't throw a CEL for it.

Yeah, he mentioned it was in drive and the rpm's wouldn't move, meaning it was running but wouldn't go anywhere.

Correct, it was running and still wouldn't move or RPMs wouldn't go up (from what she said). Could that still be the crankshaft position sensor?
fyi the car ran perfect today

if the engine rpm's failed to go up with pushing the gas pedal id have to agree with sexman and the dbw system acting up.

dbw, drive by wire. theres no cable its all wires.

Just fyi, bumping this to let everyone know that the GP hasn't stalled and given me any other problems since this happened. I'm thinking it was bad gas lol

ok well just replaced radiator n found that i accidentally punched a hole in it when i was putting it in the the upper hard line it got tangled with the spark plug wires wich didnth go trough my head of me just removing them for the moment oh well also i did accidentally dent the other cooler in front of it just curious what the other cooler for and what fluid should i watch out for coming out
