2005 grand prix stereo install

hey guys i want to get rid of the stock stereo hu in my 2005 grand prix GT and put in an aftermarket.....i was told i need a special interface harness i didnt know this before i bought just the regular harness from canadian tire ($14.99) i hooked it up like you normally would but i got no power the cd ejected and went in but no lights i seen a previous post about the same thing and that i would need to run a 12 volt power source i did that i now have power the cd is playing but the problem is now i have no sound coming from any speaker.....can someone help me with this thanx
