2005 Grand Prix, rear brake frustration

This weekend I replaced the front and rear rotors on my gf's '05 grand prix. Well, 3 of the 4 anyway as I had one bolt that absolutely would not cooperate. I will take this to my mechanic and have him loosen it for me. Anyway, that was the easy part. I replaced the front pads with no issues whatsoever as the pistons in them compressed easily and the new pads slid in perfectly. I was not that lucky on the rear calipers. Even with a c-clamp and placing a block over the piston to apply equal pressure, I could not get the rear caliper pistons to compress for the new pads. The rear pads weren't too worn so I'm not scared that she will be unsafe but what gives? Is this a common problem with an easy fix? I'd like to get the final rotor on and the new pads on the rear. Thanks!

your year rear caliper, you need to twist the caliper piston back in. if you go back and look there are 2 dot/dimples in the piston. they sell a tool or you can use a pair of needle nose pliers and put the tips in the dots, push and turn them back in.

It's just called a brake piston tool, they have it at auto parts stores in the specialty tools section, it looks like a cube with a bunch of nubs sticking out.

Thank you all very much! Off to autozone to pick one up today. Any idea on the stuck bolt? It's not on the caliper, it's on the caliper bracket. I don't have any air tools or anything like that. Even with multiple attempts with PB blaster, it would not loosen. I am concerned that I'll round it off if I continue to try. I figure my best bet is to take it to the shop and have them break it free. Any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks again, Greg

yup a pipe works great, its got loctite on it from the factory and takes some force to break them free.

use a breaker bar so not to break your ratchet.

Ahh, OK, I believe it's a 13mm so I'll pick one of those up today when I'm buying the rear piston tool. Thanks
