2005 GP crash sensors

Hey All,

Have been working hard on a couple of old GTO's and not doing much with the 05 and 07 Grand Prix's in the "family fleet".

Teenage son had a minor front-end crash in the 05 GP that set air bags off. I am working with a local guy who is parting out a 2006 for the parts we need (air bags, bumper, air bag ecm, clock spring, etc). We are trying to determine the location of the actual crash sensors (many times up near the front bumper), but not having any luck.

I came across this post here in the forum that suggests the sensor is located in an ABS module under the passenger front seat.

Anyone here know if this is also the case for the 2004-2008 Grand Prix?

Thank you!

There are 2 just behind the header panel on the core support. Look at the latch and there's one to the left and one to the right about a foot away from the hood latch.

give me a minute and I'll post a picture

Correction, my 05' only has 1 but I have seen later models with 2.

Just in case here is one I pulled a while ago. Looking at it you think it is a temp sensor, but it has a yellow plug and when you remove it you will see this.

Serves me right for venturing outside the 97-03 realm. If it has a yellow connector, thats part of the SIR system. I do know many year to year changes were made as the platform evolved so year-specific documentation would be best.

Yes, I have found out that 04 is different from 05' which is different from 06'. 06' has a hood latch sensor! And I believe 2 sensors, 1 left and 1 right. Maybe that's why Bill asked where the sensors were and when I said core support he didn't respond. I had been wondering why I was seeing 04+ without deployed airbags even though they should have (my opinion).

thanks for the info. So does that mean the 06 sensors on the core support are different from the sensors in my 05?

Yes my 06 has 2 front sensors and a hood latch sensor which has come into play 3 times lol. The other day I locked my doors, then shut the hood and my factory alarm went off. I thought is was weird but found out later that if the hood is opened or closed while the doors are locked, the alarm goes off. Seems like a pretty cool security feature.
