2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT1 Issue

Hey there,

My '04 GP GT1 is making an annoying clunking noise lately, which seems to be coming from the steering column. There is a little play in the steering wheel as well a clunking noise. I was told there is a grease kit I can buy to help fix this. I also heard I can buy a redesigned steering column.

I am looking to sell the car, so even a quick fix would work. I realize that the grease kit would be a temporary solution. So, having said that, my question is whether or not I'll damage the car if I continue to drive it in its current state, and whether or not the grease kit would be a viable quick fix.

Lastly, where can I purchase a grease kit at a reasonable price? Is it something I'd have to order through the dealer? I really hate the Pontiac/GM dealer in my town.

Regards,
Tim

You can go to any GM dealer and ask for an Intermediate Steering shaft lube kit. It's a cork and some special grease. It will not hurt your car to drive it like it is but it get's annoying after a while. It's kind of a PITA getting the ISS in and out but that's the hardest part. The kit is only something like 13-16 dollars
