2004 gtp cooling fan problem - help

My 04 GTP cooling fans only work when I turn on the A/C. They will not turn on if I have the A/C off and the engine will run really hot if I am idling. It will run cooler if I am driving because air is passing through the radiator. If anyone can help, please chime in on what to look for or look at.

Thanks for your help!

What temp is the dash reading when it runs hot?
Does the pcm temp correspond to the dash temp?

I dont know what the actual temp is, however, if I just leave the car running parked, the temperature gauge will go past the 3/4 mark, just a few notches from the redline area. If I turn on the A/C, leaving the car parked and idling, the fans will then turn on and the gauge will drop to the 1/2 mark or a notch or 2 below. I dont currently have a way to check the PCM, but I am willing to buy something if needed to check it out. I have owned the car since new and it used to always run at or below the 1/2 mark just about all the time. No matter how hot the temperature gets without the A/C on, the fans will never turn on. I hope this info helps.

I've had the same problem with my 04 ever since I bought it. Whoever had it before me put a jumper wire from a fuse to the fan relay so the fans run all the time on low speed. My mechanic looked at it an kinda thinks its a short in the fuse box. I have a new temp sensor just haven't installed it. Other than that it could be a problem in the pcm

I fixed an 04 with the same issue by cleaning the connectors in the fuse box... they get all burnt and fail.
