2004 GTP Comp G -- wont turn left -- intermittent

Took my car for a weekend trip camping, drove and drove, probably 8-10 hours all weekend, no problems.. Came home down the ramp into my underground parking turning right at same time, and then tried to turn back left to park... stiff as all hell, could barely move it with 2 hands, felt like zero steering assist. Got it towed to a local shop to get looked at, was told it my strut mounts are binding thats why its so hard to turn, sure enough went in and tried to turn it without tie rod and they are tight for sure. went out bought new front struts and rear quick struts (decided to do it all since the car had original and 155km on it... Replaced all new suspension and 2 outer tie rods. Drove the car and same problem. I can drive it and turn right easily with no resistance... left is hard, sometimes its a 2 hander, sometimes its alittle stiffer than right and sometimes its perfectly fine like right... it also makes the whine you get at the end of your rack, once you start going left now??

I'm leaning towards changing the rack and pinnon next, is this the right step and does anyone have any thoughts to share??

thanks in advance

I cant be 100% for sure with this being the internet and all.

I am basically an armchair mechanic right now, but anyways, I think about 2 weekends ago at work, we had a 05-ish ford taurus in and he had the exact same issue you are describing. He came in and said he was leaving his hotel and left the parking lot and when he wanted to turn left, he couldn't without 2 handing it, but when turning right it was perfect.

So we ended up replacing the rack and new fluid and all was good. Having a rack go bad is very possible, and if it was me, I would replace it.

It's not bad, if it takes you more than 3 hours to do your probably doing something wrong. But I concurr a bad rack my 99 did the same thing replaced that and it was good to go.

Awesome thanks.

Buddy of mine wanted to try the Lucas oil, its steering alot better but 1 out of 10 turns might be alittle stiff but no more 2 handing. Still, I'm going to be replacing it this weekend.

Called a couple local car part places, I came up with 3 brands, I'm leaning towards the lifetime warranty but just wondering if anyone can shed more light on them from personal experience.

Viston $281 - 1 year
Cardon $282 - Lifetime (Napa)
Fenco $281 - Lifetime (Parts Source)
Dealer for laughs?
Original $1,168.75
AC Delco - $656.53 - 1 year

I'm leaning towards the Napa one because they are usually pretty easy to deal with and lifetime warranty.. Any thoughts would be great!

addzradd, you say it shouldn't take more than 3 hours? Does this sound correct to you?

-disconnect lines from top
-drop frame
-remove and replace rack
-reinstall frame with new rack

Thanks.

Pretty much, add in there taking out the swaybar for a bit more room and swapping tie rods unless you purchase new ones. There is a writeup somewhere on here that really goes step by step.
