2004 GT II Power Steering Leak

Hello all,

New to this site but seems very helpful. I have been dealing with a squealing noise from the engine while accelerating. I believe its a power steering leak that is causing this noise. Previously, I have taken it to a Chevy dealership to add more fluid (quick fix) but I'm considering finally getting it fixed. I'm pretty sure I need to have the rack and pinion replaced which I was quoted for around $700.

I'm in a little dilemma at this point with this vehicle. It has 140,000 miles and I'm not sure its worth fixing.

Have any of you had this fixed and how much did it cost?

Any idea what a 2004 GT II would sell for with 140,000 miles, some paint chipping issues and this rack and pinion problem? I have leather interior and a sunroof.

Thanks for your input!

You want low cost? Pick one up from a junkyard for about $40 get another $15 in fluid and ask ScottyDoggs for his how to on the subject.

a used rack cost no more then 125, new pump cost 40, and you want to sell the car over 4 hours of work?

lots of how toos out there for changing the rack, its not the worst thing, but sucks due to working in a tight area.

stop going to the dealer too, they over charge for everything.
