2004 Grand Prix GT - installing XM/Sirius

Hey guys,

Just bought my 2004 Grand Prix today and love it but I want to install satellite radio and I would like to keep my steering wheel controls working. Is there a factory GM head unit I can buy on eBay that would plug and play with my steering wheel controls that has the ability to hook up XM? This seems easier than buying an aftermarket head unit plus whatever control module to get the wheel controls to work. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of my radio. Is it possible to add another GM radio that has XM and add the antenna? Then would that keep the steering wheel controls? Mine has the band button

You can change to another stock GM radio for 2004-08 GP if you want, but it will cost you about $100 to have it programmed for your car,if you want it to work, at your local GM dealership. So with that said I wouldn't replace the one you have just add the Sirius radio to the one you already have.

I'm looking to have the XM or Sirius built into the head unit unlike my last car which had it as a stand alone unit. So I guess I might just do an aftermarket head unit and try to find a converter that allows the steering wheel controls to work with it. Either that or find a stock unit that has XM capability for a fairly low price.

I do believe that even the aftermarket radios do not have the satellite radio built in you still have to purchase an external satellite tuner just like with the stock radios, the tuner is external but the controls are within the HU.
