2004 GP AC Question - Blown compressor release vlave

Hello all,
I recently replaced the AC condenser in my 2004 grand prix, then took it to a shop to evac and charge. The system held a vaccuum for 8 minutes, then filled with 2.1 lb refrigerant. Compressor cycled, everything seemed ok. To test, shop tech turned on AC in the car and the pressure release valve on the compressor blew out. Any thoughts/past experience? Shop tech recommended I start where I left off (condenser in/out) in looking for a blockage. Any recommendations on how to find the blockage? One thing I've read since doing the work is that the accumulator should be replaced if the system is opened (which I didn't do). What are the negatives of not changing that out?

Thanks for the help,
Jeff
