2003 Grand Prix Trans Solenoids r&r question

hey guys, ok, first post on here, I have a 2003, base model, it needs the 1-2 shift solenoid..first question is which one is which....

the million dollar question is this and I can not find a definite response. I work on cars, I can do the work --- BUT, can I do it while leaving the trans in the car? Can I pull the pan and get it done? I have read a few different answers to this questions.

ok, well I looked into posts on here a little more, the issue is it has no 4th gear, -- it had the 1-2 solenoid code but could it need the hub thing I have read about?
