2003 grand prix SE wiring

Sorry if this is already posted some were but i done a seach and didnt find it.

I have a 03 grand prix se... bought a kenwood pkg-mp18 stereo, the harness on it looked like crap so i started cutting wires (big mistake). i twisted the wires togather for now but its not working right.

I twisted the acc wires togather...Cont wires togather and the grnd...it sounded like the head unit can on but theirs no lights on the radio at all.. I seen theirs a illumenating wire so i hooked it to the constant wire and it comes on fine but when i turn the car off it stays on so i put it on the acc wires thinking it would turn off but it doesnt even turn on.

If i would assume that thiers no power at all to the acc wires then untwisting them shouldnt make a diffrence but then the unit wont power on at all... I am so freaking confused right now.

Please help me
 


You need help? I'd agree to that. It sounds like you have a bunch of wires twisted together, possibly touching metal etc and have zero clue as to what you are doing.

Get the installation manual for the radio, tell us which radio you have. Without that, we can't help you fight your way out of a wet paper bag. Then get the wiring schematic for the harness that you have. Sit down..map out the wires that connect and do that.

I know what im doing..sorta..its not like i never installed a radio before :/
Anyways...the radio i plan on installing is a kenwood PKG-MP 18. The wireing for the 03 grand prix is orang-Cont..Yellow-ACC..Black-grnd..Brown-Illuminating...
The Kenwood wiring is a basic wiring config.

If I connect them the way it should be then the brn wire for illumenating the headset should go with the ACC wire but nothing seems to happen at all but if I would connect it to the constant power then it lights up real pretty but doesnt turn off at all so my question would be..instead of using the illumenation wire ,couldnt I run another wire from the ACC wire at the fuse box straight into the radio, that way the headset would turn off when the car is turned off?
