Hi guys my names is evan. I have had my pontiac since i was first able to drive. It has run perfect and amazing. Last year it started to idle rough and stalled when i was stopped at a red light. It even caused me to get into a car accident. When i open the hood, i can hear a high whining sound and people i work with say it sounds like a vacuum leak. I was just wondering if that is what it is if somebody could help me with a diagram of the vacuum hoses. If not what else could it be?

Thanks, Evan

An easy way to find vacuum leaks is to start the car, let it warm up a bit, and then lightly spray some carb cleaner over the vacuum lines and listen for a change in idle. If you hear the change, spray that spot again to be sure. Check the point that you found to look for splits or cracks in the hose or hoses. Sometimes it's as simple as a hose coming loose from it's connection. Has it thrown up the check engine light on the car yet?

Yes it had just recently. My uncle has a code scanner so I think im going to borrow it to see what code pops up

It may be as simple as a dirty MAF and Throttle Body. It's not a big job at all to do yourself. Just be sure to use the specific cleaner for each.
