2002 Grand Prix - Right Rear Brake Leak

Wondering if anyone out there is experiencing or experienced a brake leak coming from the right rear wheel??

I jacked the car up and it seems like there is some kind of metering valve back there and it seems like that is the culprit. I have tried looking the part up with no luck.

Just wondering if anyone had any input on this.

Thanks!

The only thing that comes to mind based on what you are describing is the bleeder valve and that you can just grab a wrench and tighten down.

If you give us a better idea as to where exactly this leaking part is located you will most like get some more helpful responses.

I bet your talking about the proportioning valve. Its on the line, its kinda brass looking before the caliper, correct? If so thats the rear proportioning valves, you have them on both sides. They do go bad and will leak, I had to replace the drivers side on my 1999 GTP. There easy and fairly cheap to replace. Its a dealer item only as far as I know. Just break free, pull out, install the new, and bleed that line of air.

^ exactly the part i was thinking too i didnt know the name of it though. I too just did one recently on the drivers side. i bought one at the junkyard for 20. had to show the guy on the junker car exactly what i wanted cause he couldnt figure out what i was talkin about even when i took him out an showed it to him on my own car. you may end up having to replace that section of line as well. i did because the connectors were stuck in the valve an i couldnt get them out but it was an easy job as Iron Indian said.

I think it was like $20-$30?? Something like that, not too bad really. I recommed soaking both ends with PB Blaster before trying to undo the lines. For an ex Michigan car, it came off very easily on my car. You'll loose a little bit of brake fluid, not much though.

Thanks!

One more question, maybe you guys can answer. My gas mileage really has gone down hill lately. I was getting about 360 miles per tank and now I am only getting about 280-290. Does anyone have an idea of what I can try to fix it?

It has 97,000 miles on it and it has never had a tune up or anything done to it except, I replaced the upper intake plenum about 5,000 miles ago.

Thanks for the help!

think simple first; plugs, air filter, wires, etc, typical tune up stuff. if that doesnt cure it, could be an injector issue; leaking or need cleaning. a scan tool would be really helpful to check fuel trims and sensor data.
