2001 GTP fault code P0001

Hello all. I haven't posted here much but I do check out the forum every now and again. Love the knowledge base here. I had an 00 GTP coupe I had to scrap due to body rott. Replaced it with an 04 GTP that has treated me well so far. Last week I ended up buying another 01 GTP coupe as my girlfriend needed a new car and I loved the now gone 2000. Thrilled to have two cars I really like in the driveway now. As the post title says; I am now getting a p0001 fault code on the 2001. The car needed new gas and brake lines to pass safety. The previous owner had the work done at a garage. He gave me a heads up right before I picked it up that the gas gauge "occasionally" malfunctions: it shows full when it is not. He never mentioned this before and he had the work done at a garage for it to pass safety. Now the code p0001 has shown up. I know it is the FVRC circuit open code. My question is where am I most likely to located the issue? Where is the valve itself? At the fuel pump or under the hood? Iv read damaged wiring is a likely suspect from rodents (it was mostly garage kept) but havent found a promising lead yet. I dont want to make this post too lengthy to discourage the experts out there from reading it. Where do you guys think I should start?

It has crossed my mind that this 2001 seems a little lazy compared by memory of my 2000. It has been almost 2 years that I replaced the 2000 with the 2004 though. Not sure if that 20HP difference should be that noticeable or not. Other than that I have no other symptoms to describe.
Let me know if I'm missing important details.

Thanks in advance to anyone with advice.:th_thumb-up:

the fpr does not have a plug to it, its vacuum powered.

the gas gauge being wrong is the sender on the side of the pump canister in the tank. (you can get them on ebay for like 20 bucks) no idea if that would set a code, never heard of it being set or any other codes for it being bad before.

Thanks for the info on the gas gauge Scottydoggs. I will check out eBay when I get home from work. Iv read there is an access panel in the trunk to access the sending unit in the tank. Please tell me this is correct lol. After some more reading it sounds like mabe my code reader is giving me the wrong code. I will try to borrow a different one and see if I get the same code. I figured the code made sense since the gauge is faulty, but now it's sounding like two separate problems. I'll keep you posted on what I find.
Thanks again!

you need to remove the back seat, then lift the carpet up and out of the way in the trunk, then you'll see the hatch there. pretty easy, i just had mine open the other day to reseal the dumb o ring, do make sure you grease the hell out of the o ring, or it just dont seem to seat right, mine kept pushing into the tank on me.

I will admit my stupidy now. My code reader was just fine I just didn't know how to read it(bought it for this issue, borrowed another and noticed my mistake). I needed to press enter to see my code was actually p0128. replaced the thermostat and now that is good to go. I havent gotten around to the gas gauge yet. Been checking ebay but I must not have the right search words as i mostly find complete sending units for my year. is there a part number to zero me in on the part i need? also the gauges reads full Most of the the time. However it seems usually when i First hop in it after its been sitting, it will work. After I pull away it will quickly tell me that the tank is full, when I know it is not. It has once or twice put the gas light on telling me its empty. When I know its not. Sender issue or bad wire? If bad wire where do I look for it? Through the hatch?
Thanks again.
