2001 GT Sunroof problems

So I was having a good day today, popped open thge sunroof a tad to cool my head. It was working as usual tis morning but then at noon or so I got back into my car and it would require several presses to close the damn thing, it is supposed to go down as yoou hold it. I was frustarted in traffic, people around must have been thinking I was sick bescause I was opening/closing the damn thing, I though it was just not enough grease and would roll out to normal after a few tries but no.

Sometimes opening takes a bunch of presses, and closing is fine and other time closing takes a bunch of presses and opening is fine.

What could this be? I really love my sunroof, I use it almost daily, I can't live with it like this.

have you tried greasing it?? mine has only done this once or twice but hasn't done it in a long long time. i greased mine with lithium grease and it seemed to work out fine. not sure if it was b/c of grease or not, but it can never hurt.

i hope you find your problem :) i love my sunroof too.

i just greased the tracks on either side. the seals you can use silicone spray i believe it says in the manual...? might have to double check that but you can renew that seal on the outside if it's looking a little busted.

either way unless you're leaking you have some sort of motor, sensor, or lack-of-grease problem.

uhmm. i just sprayed it? lol its messy so just be careful. i might have used the little straw or whatever but yeah. pretty straight forward.

if that doesn't do it it could be a motor issue, switch issue, or i believe there is some sort of position like sensor that can go out on them. so keep us posted.

I spray some in the tracks and on the mechanism arms, opened and closed it a few time and nothing changed.

How expensive are motor/sensor issues?

Hold it, hold it, hold everything!

I was just going to subway for lunch and figured what the hell, i'll keep trying it and it opened and closed and only got stuck a few times. Then on the way home it opene and closed three times in a row perfectly! I don't want to jump to conclusions but I think i'm good! And just when I was about to print off a picture of the GM logo and piss on it!(jk)

Brandon, I love you right now buddy, hope you don't see me post in this thread again!

Haha!! I HOPE that fixed it for you. keep the tracks greased regardless what happens and the motor will last longer since it doesn't have to work so hard.
