hey guys, new to this site and new to my grand prix.
i picked up my 01 grand prix a cuople days back and it needs a shift solenoid. the guy i got it from gave me the part, so i just need to put it in.
how hard is it to do that? a do it my self job or do i need to drop the trans?

my dads been a mechanic at GM for 20 odd years so if its a do it yourself deal me and him can do it.

thanks guys

If your father was a GM tech for 20 years...............why didn't he tell you NOT to buy that car............

The shift solenoid going bad in a 4T65E=HD transmission is a tell-tale sign of a shot transmission.............

You CAN replace that solenoid with the transmission in the car, but the subframe needs to come down and it's definitely not something I would suggest a novice attempt.

he said it was fine.
and i mean i trust him enough hes in the top 5 of his whole plant.
its not to bad it only shifts hard into 2nd and thats not bad you can just feel it shift into 2nd gear more then the rest.
he has an alero that he thinks has the same problem and hes been driving that for a couple years.
