2001 grand prix gt problems

i have a 2001 with a 3.8 with 134,000 miles on it and recently ive been noticing some problems. when ever i accelerate slowly from 35 mph it kinda jerk like its missing or not getting enough fuel. the tach jumps up and down from 1500 to 2000 rpms all the way to 40 miles and hour and then it goes away. it some times also does this when im acceleration slowly from 55 to 60 mph what could this be? thanks kirk
 


sounds like a bad crank position sensor, the tach going nuts is usually the first sign of it failing

Had the same exact problem with my 01 GP GT. Everyone told me the same thing that it was the crank positioner sensor. Poked around in the engine bay for a while and I found a crack/bad gasket connecting my airfilter assembly to the throttle body. Replaced the gasket and problem solved! Not saying thats your problem, but if you have any leaks there your car will never run or idle quite right or eventually stahl out all together. Which is what mine did eventually as the crack in the gasket got bigger. If that is what it is, it is cheap and an easy to fix. Good luck!
 
no i havent fixed it yet. ill look into the air filter thing cuz i really dont wanna spend the money on that sensor a nd hopefully its bad cuz then ill just put a k&n on her
 
Hey Kirk I think i found the problem with mine i removed my maf and cleaned it still did the same thing so i unpluged it and drove for a couple of miles and all hesitating was gone i pulled over and plugged it back in and hesitating came back as soon as i touched the gas.I am going to get a new/used maf on monday i will let you know how it goes.Crossing my fingers.
