2001 bonneville transmission swap?

Can anyone what if any transmission swaps work with this year other then from a lesabre. lkq interchange says only 2001 lesabre or bonneville work. does anyone know the differences in transmissions from year to year and differences between grand prix transmissions 97-03 and 04+. I know the differences in gearing and differences between hd and non hd. But what about axles and electronics ?

I think anything 00+ would be a direct swap with both cooler lines and electronics wise for a bonnieville.

The only hard part is figuring out what gear ratio the transmission is. 2.86, 3.29, 3.05 are all options I think.

I meant 00+, I fixed it. (00-02 for grandprix, regal. 03+ changed on those)

But yeah they are still a 4T65e transmission. They just have different transmission mounts on the bonneville I believe.

Ok so they will work as long as its tuned for gear changes? What changed in "00" ?

Body style changed in 2000 for the bonnieville.

I don't know exact facts here, but enough to help some.

Transmissions that can fit in there are,

00-02 bonnieville
00-02 grand prix
00-02 regal LS
00-02 lesabre

I say up to 2002 because I don't know for a fact if the bonneville, regal and lesabre changed internal items inside the transmission like a grand prix's did for 03+ cars. And for the fact that all transmission cooler lines were exactly the same style after 2000, might even be 1999 but thats beside the point.

It's going to be hard to see if the transmission has the exact same gear ratio though. It might be possible to find out. A tune could fix that issue if need be.

if you call a dealership up with your vin# they should be able to tell you what gears your tranny came with.

if it comes down to it, and you cant find a matching geared tranny, you find a local tuner they, can change the gears in the pcm so it works right.

Already did that and found a tuner locally through this forum. The gears in mine are 3.05 and I can't seem to find anything thats 3.05 and not 900$ or have 200k on it I found a couple lesabre tranny's with 2.86 but there gonna be a pain to get. There seems to be tons of grand prix tranny's though... I'm just tryin to get the most bang for my buck in terms of low miles.

in that case you can toss whatever you find with low miles in it. you can always change tranny lines.

only thing is the older models have the pnp switch on the outside of the tranny where the newer ones like yours, im pretty sure have it internally. but that can be swapped over too.

Got ya ok. Its a internal. So I swapped a tranny in my buddy's 2001 to a 97 tranny both had external pnp and I had to change differential in that so is other then that and the external pnp, differential, and cooler lines any should work if I'm willing to do the work is the conclusion
