2000 GTP Daytona 500 edition, couple problems

Hi, I just bought a 2000 GTP about a month ago and I'm having some issues with it.

Background info: Car is completely stock, 80,100 miles.

So occasionally when I start it, it runs really rough for about 30 seconds, with the rpm's going from 800-1100. Giving it some gas clears it up pretty quickly. Almost sounds like one of the cylinders isn't firing at first, and it eventually starts firing. Runs perfect after 30 seconds.

No CEL's are thrown after it does this issue. I occasionally do get a P0137 code for the rear o2 sensor, but only when I go WOT up to 70-80 or so.

Also, when in gear at a stop light, if i release the brakes a tiny bit, it feels like the car is jumping a little, and I can feel the same issue accelerating from a dead stop at low speeds.

Transmission shifts perfect however, and the fluid looks good, so I'm assuming that it's an engine issue.

I'd appreciate any help with this, I've done lots of searches and can never find my specific issue.

Thanks!

Mine is doing the exact same thing right now. It wouldn't hurt to probably take your TB off and clean out all the passages a little.

Awesome, looks like I'll be doing that this weekend. Also, do you think it could have anything to do with plugs/coils/wires? I have no idea if they've ever been replaced.

Coils should be fine. If one (or more) was bad it would misfire and throw a CEL for that cylinder(s). Might be worth changing the plugs and wires anyways, since it's new to you and you don't have the maint history on it. Couldn't hurt. Search here for recommendation on plugs and get a set of stock AC Delco wires on it and call it a day.

Might also try cleaning the MAF sensor. Will need some tamper-proof torx bits to remove it.

Are iridium plugs required? or can I just use platinum NGKs...

And would the MAF throw a code? or could it just be dirty enough to affect performance but not trip a code?

the maf might not throw a code, it could be really dirty, buy MAF cleaner pull it out and spray the cleaner in the hole. it helped my car idle better

Get autolite copper plugs. They're about the best thing for these motors and they're cheap. For stock get some 106s.

FWIW plats typically wear out and screw up quickly. The finer tip plugs like the plat and Irids tend to hold heat at the tip more. This can cause predetonation or KR easier than a copper core.

I'd pull the TB and clean it and the maf sensor, call it maintenance. Do the plugs/wires and see how it seems after that.

BTW please tell us what the name for P0137 is.. Not being a jerk, but when asking for help, it would be nice if you didn't make us go look up the code.

So could I just use Champion copper plugs? Its a pretty appealing option as they are much cheaper than platinums or iridiums..

Whoops, sorry, didn't realize that I didn't give the code info. Its for the O2 sensor behind the catalytic converter, but I don't know if that could cause these issues.

The only thing that that O2 does is make sure that the cat is operating properly. It shouldn't mess with how the car is running.

I have GTP Daytona 500 with a buster on it.. Latly the car RMP keeps going up and down and once awhile the car would slow down by its self.. What yall htink
