2000 GT plug wire routing

Hey everyone.

Went to go do my wires and plugs today. Like a sucker, I started with the front 3. No problems here, obviously.

Next was the rear 3. I undid the dog-bones and tilted the engine forward a smidge. Great access compared to other v6s I've done. But then I went to try and get the wires off, and they are routed under the casting that holds the dog-bone in place on the passenger side. I looked to see if it can be removed, and its not going anywhere without a fight.

Am I looking at this wrong? I have half a mind to cut the wires and just route the new ones over the valve cover, instead of where they run now.

Anyone have any pointers??

Yeah you can just cut them out if they are junk anyway, then go ahead and just route them around and over the valve cover, then over the intake manifold to the rear of the engine.
 
I'm a little confused here. The routing through/under the dog bone mount isn't that tough.

Aluminum and black steel bracket: Leave the driverside bone on and remove the passenger one. Then two 15mm bolts right there on the black metal and one 13mm nut down by the plug. Poof.. it's off.

Black cast bracket: Run then under it's edge. Nothing else needed.
 
The 2 15mm bolts are cross threaded to hell, and there are 2 fasteners on the top of the dog bone mount that both will not budge without some cursing.

Did I mention I'm in a rust belt area? :)

Don't need to worry about the two on top....only the two 15's and that ....crusticle at the bottom of the bracket that used to be a 13mm nut on the exhaust stud.

An evil thought crept into my mind: "how do you know those bolts are cross threaded......unless you did it?" However they are in aluminum. I'd bet more on dis similar metals and them having kinda welded themselves in. Put a socket on them and wack it with a hammer (even straight down) to break the bond of the two metals. I live in CT and understand rust.
 


Good question on the cross threading. I removed those two bolts, with some difficulty. Putting them back in without crossthreading them proved impossible, which lead me to assume that they were cross threaded to begin with. May need to drill/tap/replace at some point.

For now I think I will go the cut/reroute option.

But I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with plugs this week. ;-)

Now if I could only remember the routing.
 
As far as the wires go.... if you had my prob buy some new wires, get some locking pliers and go to town. Use di-electric grease for the next go around

I have 4 different socket set, and 3 wrench sets in Metric. Only one socket set and one wrench set had a 15mm socket, the others jump from 14mm to 16 or 17mm.

Hence why guys probably try imperial sockets.
