2000 grand prix

Hey guys I just bought a 2000 grand prix gt for my son's first car. It has only 95000 miles on it and seems like it was well taken care of. I have never owned a gm product so don't know alot about the engines. I have always been a ford man. I have been smelling an odd smell inside and outside, this is not all the time but at least once everytime I drive it. My friend says it smells like something burning but I don't think it does. it runs great and I have no complaints. Any ideas on this smell
Thanks

Sweet smell? Oil? ... Could be a few different things. You should read up on a few items here as the GP's are prone to a few things but nothing that a little elbow grease can't fix.

But to start, check around the engine, valve covers for wetness, bottom of engine too. If wet, then a lim job is probably in your future. But check everything out first so you can make a plan. No sense changing oil if you're going to do a lim job and replace it again.

Not matter what though I would do an top to bottom maintenance run on it. Oil, filter, plugs, wires, air filter or removal of air box and open cone it, tranny pan drop with fluid change and new filter, check suspension and struts, tires and alignment and coolant flush!

: )

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with the new wheels.

I had a plastic bad get stuck on the exhaust and melt onto the pipe, I had plastic smell for years after that, just something for you to check.
